Day 232 - Panty Trees and the Useful Idiot

As we met up with an old friend at a franchise restaurant, he told us a story about his neighbor and how our friend's friend was really "up to date" and always talking about the illegal immigrants in this country.  I could just feel the hairs begin to stand on the back of my neck as a former Cultural Diversity Trainer and mother of biracial children, I know white people just suddenly grow red horns when the conversations start like this.  So looking for a quick end to what was lying ahead, I crouched down to pounce at such ugliness at it would eventually rear it's ugly head if I waited like a lion with patience to attack.

His neighbor told him about "rape trees." Evidently these are trees that hold undergarments of all the female illegal immigrants who try to cross the border that have been raped by these BEASTS as a physical monument to their conquest!  [Hear the sounds of drums that are coming from these beast like Hispanic men who can't contain themselves...Argh, less than human....Does lynching for such same fears of black men come to mind?]

I stopped him, "Before you proceed Kyle I just want you to know that Fear as a tool in a conversation... for or against anything.... does not work well with me.  I will trust and verify.  I will not allow fear to define my beliefs or behaviors."  It is simply the right thing to do for anyone who wants to be and becomes wise.  So the conversation veered back on truck with critical thinking comments and statements that we could both learn from.  And with most controversies, I see both sides.  I see the fear that Americans have that we have to work to put the food on our table and for medical insurance.Ironically a large portion of Americans still work but can't afford neither food or insurance.  While illegal immigrants come here and will get free health care and their children will be taken care of by welfare because the childre are American citizens.  I also see the side of people valuing freedom so much that they risk their own life to achieve it.  Their American born children are a reward for such efforts and they fear everyday that they may have to return to their country if their illegal status is discovered, it doesn't matter that their child may be in the US military or that their grandchild may have died serving this country.

When I came home and looked up Panty trees, I found that this is a common tree at ski lifts.  I guess skiers already know this.  And I also found that "rape trees" are used just as I thought, only for purposes of discussion to scare others.  Click here to find out more...  Shingal goes on to write:
I certainly don’t mean to discount the very real occurrences of violence against any woman but all this reading of non-proven incidents of rape brings to mind the term “useful idiot.” It’s a term I heard used in a 1984 news program featuring Soviet KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov. In that interview, Mr. Bezmenov described how our country would be demoralized and ripped at the seams by useful idiots who parrot in news articles tripe fomented by those with larger agendas. That idea that some women are raped while attempting to cross the border should never be discounted; I don’t doubt there is rape and other violence in some situations. The idea of panties in trees being proof of widespread rape is what is laughable. The conjectures without victims, witnesses or other proof make a mockery of the very real subject of abuse and the people who copy and paste such nonsense in blog posts are either well meaning idiots or idiots with an agenda, but idiots nonetheless.

—Shinghal

Mr. Bezmenov makes a great case for people who take freedom for granted. He states that it takes 25 more years to create another generation like who will value freedom when a generation is lost by allowing their morals to be sacrified.  It is irreversible damage when  people don't see that white is white even after you tell them white is white and prove it.So as for our friends' neighbor,  I can only hope that he doesn't get his panties in such a wad and tries to see the things we have in common with others rather than our differences.  This is how this country was founded, if he doesn't believe it, maybe he should travel to Washington DC and visit Thomas Jefferson's monument and Lincoln's Monument and read EVERY SINGLE quote carved in these granite walls for all to remember.

Particularly the line from Lincoln... Lincoln declared that secession was "the essence of anarchy" and it was his duty to "hold, occupy, and possess the property belonging to the government". Focusing on those within the South who were still on the fence regarding secession, Lincoln contrasted "persons in one section or another who seek to destroy the Union as it exists" versus "those, however, who really love the Union". In his closing remarks he spoke directly to the secessionists and emphasized the moral commitment that he was undertaking. The government will not assail you. You can have no conflict, without being yourselves the aggressors. You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to "preserve, protect, and defend it". I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature...
